It’s time to get rid of the Electoral College.

Since 2000, we have had two presidents that did not win the popular vote.

Without using the popular vote to decide the presidency, we leave open the door for “faithless electors,” which is exemplified by the attempt to skewer the 2020 presidential election results.

Why does this really matter?

In 2016, in Wisconsin, Trump won the majority vote by approximately 20k votes, which is less than 1% of the total voter turnout.

In 2020, again in Wisconsin, Biden won the majority vote by (again) approximately 20k votes, which was still less than 1% of the total voter turnout for the state.

In both of these elections, approximately 1.6M votes were entirely discarded because under the electoral college system, the majority winner gets all of the state’s electoral votes.

When I am elected, I plan to introduce and support legislation to move away from the outdated Electoral College and instead make every voter’s choice heard.

That is democracy.
